As a member of the Lighthouse Bay Book Club our May, 2010 read was “The Necklace: Thirteen Women and the Experiment That Transformed Their Lives” written by Cheryl Jarvis.
Facilitating group friendship, shared experiences and women helping women we decided to take this idea and launch our own experiment.
Our version of “Jewelia” is a hand beaded Swarovski crystal and white pearl necklace that we aptly named “Crystal Bay”. Based on each members birthday month we will pass the piece from book club member to member.
What will our members experience with Crystal Bay?
Where will they wear her?

Our beautiful “Crystal Bay” was a delightful surprise from Red Carpet Beading at tonight’s book club discussion of The Necklace. She provided the stimulus for one of our liveliest meetings, as we all tried her on, took photos of each other wearing her, and making bookings to wear her at diverse functions. Rather than wait 8 months for my birthday turn to come around, I’ve booked her to help me celebrate my husband’s birthday in a few weeks. -if you’re read the book, you will be smiling at that….
I’m so lucky that my birthday is in July, so I will be the next person to have Crystal Bay for the month. I plan on giving her lots of interesting experiences…
I am the first lady to take Crystal Bay on an adventure. Saturday we went to beautiful Lake Hopatcong to Jason and Dayna’s wedding…on the deck of the Yacht Club there was a beautiful vista of boats and shimmering water. It was a little drizzly that night outside but we enjoyed being misted.
On Monday we did the usual chores–a little overdressed for Lowes and BJs, etc…
Tonite we will be celebrating my birthday with Sander, my sons Scott and Eric and their families…and Helen too, G-d willing!
Paulette: Thanks for the update on Crystal’s adventures! Send us some photos of you wearing her and be sure to send us a photo of you in front of your birthday cake! Happy Birthday and wishing you a year filled with love, health and happiness! JML
Last week, I took Crystal on her first train ride into Manhattan, up to the Lincoln Center, so she could see her first opera. On the train, she shone brightly, but once inside Avery Fisher Hall, she glowed softly and demurely, as the vibrant kaleidoscope of colors of the dazzling costumes, and the cacophony of sounds of the New York Philharmonic, assaulted our senses. Le Grand Macabre was a strange and wonderful post-modern opera, coming out of the Theater of the Absurd, so it was okay that Crystal and I couldn’t much follow what was going on- it was just fun to be there together in this elegant setting. Coming home very late on the subway, Crystal felt a little nervous, so I wrapped her under a pretty scarf to keep lusting eyes off her gorgeous form. It’s hard to dim the lights of this lovely necklace, though. Where to next, Crystal??
